Laser Tracking

FARO Laser Tracking System

Laser Tracking provides accurate, consistent and recordable measurement data.   At VIS, our focus is on simplifying our customers work with tools like the FARO laser tracker; that enable reduction in onsite measurement time and lower overall cost. VIS, LLC is proud to offer our customers leading edge Metrology services using the FARO Vantage S laser tracker which insures exceptional accuracy with the inclusion of the integrated Absolute Distance Measurement System, which allows the Vantage S to measure angle and distance with a single laser. The Laser Tracker measures 3D coordinates by tracking a spherical mounted retro-reflector (SMR) that is in contact with the object to be scanned.

How the Laser Tracker 3D Coordinates

Two angle encoders measure the elevation and rotational angles while a highly accurate absolute distance measurement is used to determine the 3D position of the SMR (Spherical Mounted Reflector)

Parallelism

Parallelism – a three-dimensional geometric tolerance that controls how much a surface, axis, or plane can deviate from an orientation parallel to the specified datum. Parallelism can be used with any plane or line reducible feature.  The parallelism is the distance from the furthest point from the datum to the closest point to the datum.

Squareness

Squareness – a three-dimensional geometric tolerance that controls how much a surface, axis, or plane can deviate from a 90 degree angle.

Flatness

Flatness is the difference between the highest and lowest point on a plane after best fitting all points to a perfect plane.

Cylindricity

The concentricity value is calculated from the furthest point on the feature to the datum.  The concentricity value is twice the distance of the point to the datum.

Elevation

The FARO® Laser Tracker can be used to adjust a part, or the base of a part or fixture so that it is level to gravity. This is used when the part or fixture is required to be level to gravity as opposed to just being flat.

Roll Parallel

Faro Laser tracker provides unparalleled accuracy, precision and measurement acquisition time. Roll positions are quickly and accurately measured for centerline, parallelism, and level for steel mills, paper mills and other roll processes.

Vessel Expansion

Three dimensional geometric orientation of any part from design tolerance. This type inspection is particularly useful in determining heat warping or expansion of a vessel outside design parameters.

Rail Alignment

Perpendicularity – a three-dimensional geometric tolerance that controls how much a surface, axis, or plane can deviate from a 90 degree angle. In this type survey, crane rails can be plotted for deviation from each other or in elevation deviation from plan.
